10 Household chores for weight loss

This is a really fun list of 10 household chores for weight loss. My favorite one is number 8!

1. Mop the kitchen floor

If you don’t enjoy mopping the floor, use a waterpik with plain water to take care of it instead. The added bonus is that it will make your sink and tub sparkle.

2. Weed the garden

The gardening section of your home improvement store is a great resource for tools to make weeding easier and less strenuous. A lightweight ergonomic shovel, for example, can reduce back strain when digging holes or turning over the soil. Look for specialty ergonomic grass shears which measure close to 12 inches long.

3. Sweep the floor

When sweeping, make sure to stand up straight with your knees slightly bent and arms swinging at your side. This will keep you from hunching over, which can lead to back strain or even a pulled muscle.

4. Fold clothes

If you find that folding laundry is difficult due to a lack of mobility or strength, consider investing in one of the new battery-powered “laundry boss” machines. These innovative products can help you quickly and easily fold multiple pieces of clothing at a time.

5. Wash the dishes

Forget about soaking your hands when washing the dishes. If you have a double sink installed, it can be filled with soapy water on one side and clear water for rinsing on the other. You can even place a small step stool or chair in front of each sink to help you reach them more easily.

6. Clean the bathroom

Use hand sanitizer after you wash your hands instead of re-washing with soap and water, which can wash off the protective layer on your skin that keeps it soft and supple.

7. Vacuum

To keep your back straight while vacuuming, try not to bend at the waist; instead, swivel your hips as you move from room to room. This can also help prevent any discomfort in your neck or shoulders.

8. Clean the kitchen

The best way to clean the kitchen is to start at one end and work your way toward the other. The last thing you should do before moving on to another room is wipe down the area where you started cleaning, as this is where dirt and bacteria may accumulate.

9. Mop up spills from water, oil or other substances

When mopping up spills, get down on your hands and knees. This will help you avoid any back pain associated with bending over to pick up dangerous slippery substances.

10. Sweep the porch or deck

If you have a hard time bending down to sweep your porch or deck, try using an extendable push broom. These are great because you don’t have to get down on your hands and knees.
